City of Alexander Police Chief Horace Walters made several remarks
directed at aldermen Jack Shoemaker and Juanita Wilson during the February 11
city council meeting. One insulted the Native American heritage of Shoemaker
and Wilson.
Walters described a visit Shoemaker made to city hall days prior to the
meeting. According to Walters, after stopping at the chief's office, Shoemaker
went into the courtroom; where the council meetings are held.
"He came in here and started dancing and made strange
sounds," Walters said. "That makes me leery, acting like a crazy
man."
Walters also made a comment about Shoemaker "throwing feathers"
around.
Days after the meeting Wilson said. "Native Americans don't throw
feathers around. The feather is sacred."
Shoemaker denied behaving as the chief described at first. However,
when called out by Walters he did admit to some of what the chief had
described.
Shoemaker, who is a Native American Shaman, was
performing a ritual known as a "cleansing."
City Treasurer JoAn Churchill says Shoemaker invited her to witness the
ritual.
"Jack had a little bit of water in a cup, and he sprinkled a little
in each corner as he recited his cleansing prayer," she said.
Also during the February 11 council meeting Walters made claims that
aldermen Shoemaker and Wilson have been publicly accusing him of "spending
recklessly."
"But, I'm here to refute that," he said. "This police
department here has always been the scapegoat in an attempt to have you not
look in other places where the problem really is occurring. I suggest we get a
forensic accounting firm and look at the paychecks to see how the money is
being handled here."
Walters has been police chief since about mid-2010. Except for alderman
Farren Wadley, the remaining six members of the city council took office
January 1 this year. One seat is vacant due to a resignation.
According to Churchill, who was city bookkeeper at the time, the 2012
budget allowed payroll for five full-time officers plus the chief. During the
year he asked and received permission, from the previous council, to eventually
increase the number of officers to eight.
The chief also claimed Wilson had called city hall and told a secretary
to tell him to "tell those lazy (expletive deleted) officers to get off
their (expletive deleted) and direct traffic around the train track."
Wilson immediately responded "That's a lie, I don't talk like that
and everyone knows that."
Newly appointed mayor Michelle Hobbs may have opened the door to
multi-ethnic religious practices being held in city hall when she allowed
Alderman Patti Hamel to say a prayer at the start of council meetings, beginning
in January. At the start of the December meeting Hobbs also called for a moment
of silence for the shooting victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School in
Connecticut.
On the other hand, when all else fails in City Hall, they will make it a racial issue! Even brag about it, "if it isn't a racial issue, MAKE IT ONE.!" (THEIR MENTALITY, NOT MINE)
ReplyDeleteIt has become a mighty nasty cesspool at City Hall.
the city folks really need to come and see for yourself the actions taken by everyone. This is crazy, acting this way at a council meeting and making fun of ANYONES race or beliefs. Wilson is correct in saying the feathers are sacred, I have been to many rituals and NEVER seen feathers thrown. Just more stories from Walters, what is he trying to hide?
ReplyDeleteHe is hiding that he is ignorant of another culture, their beliefs, and
ReplyDeletehe is not willing to learn, so he just speaks from his "little" mind.
People like that are undeniably the lowest form of life. and they need to go find a rock, and get under it.
we all look like a huge bag of a holes in alexander.
ReplyDeletecity council is no place for feathers and what ever jack shoemaker was doing. That whole bunch, juanita wilson, jack shoemaker and dan church care nothing about the city. if they did they wouldn't be trying to push a whole different agenda on the council. instead they should be working with the mayor and other council members to fix the problems that they have now. Remember you elected juanita wilson and she and joan churchill sat infront of a recall mayor mitchell sign during the election. so whose the ones that care.
ReplyDeleteGET OVER IT
DeleteFunny thing, the mayor was appointed by people who lost the election. The people who won the election are being called all kind of stupid names. The voter wanted change, the losing city council with their bunch try to force their agenda that the voter CLEARLY voted no on.
ReplyDeleteVOTER: take note, all the warnings we, The Alexandrian, warned you about before the election, are sitting in city hall before your very eyes. They couldn't care less what you voted on or against. Only YOU can stop it.
Your right only you can stop it, with asking Juanita Wilson and her Paul Mitchell desciple bunch to quit wanting what they want and put the city 1st. 480+ voters voted Mitchell out. Accept it and do what voters want to to do. Mayor Hobbs opened city hall during snow storm and is there every day, unlike the previous mayor. And unlike the previous mayor, she knows her job. We have council members now who are working for the best interest for the city.
DeleteIf things are going so well with those who turned their back to the public when they were not allowed to speak in a public meeting and had to hold signs demanding a special election - why then do we have a city at risk and everyone who has a check involved at risk? Many have had to close their bank accounts and open new ones because your wonderful, smart, intelligent mayor sent out complete bank statements (including copies of the front and back of all checks) to council members as the monthly financial statement for February. Information like bank account numbers were not hidden. With identity theft as rampant as it is today, the news has been full of it all week, from international level to local - every city account number is now public knowledge. If you received a check, deposited it and put your account on the endorsement side, it is now public knowledge. I know it is a fact, I have seen it.
DeleteSome private citizens who felt threatened have taken it to the Attorney General's office for satisfaction.
Every account the city owns has had its account number distributed by the smartest mayor ever you are so fond of. No hacking necessary at Alexander. Accounts are public knowledge. Meetings aren't, but bank accounts are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And, she still works full time for the state so she's not at city hall as much as you think she is.
My opinion... I think This so-called chief of police that some thinks walks on water should be ran out of Town.He gets up in council meetings and says he will never LIE to you or cause the CITY any LAWSUITS.Well just look what he did to Brad Williams. He also caused a LAWSUIT because he wouldn''t have vehicles moved and even DEFIED a COURT ORDER from a JUDGE when the case went to TRIAL to move the Vehicles, but he is still here and thats not all the lawsuits that are pending against the city because of him!
ReplyDeletetruthfinder1952: Wait til these law suits get on the docket!
Delete1. The family of the fellow who got shot. Nancy shouldn't be on trial - THE CHIEF SHOULD.
2. Christi Miller
3. One identity theft from the released bank statements
The first two alone stand to be huge!
