"Anonymous" option removed

Since one or two of the readers of this blog can't use facts to backup their opinions, and have to resort to character assassination in order to have something to say, I have removed the "anonymous" option from the comment log-in menu.

If you wish to participate in this community political exercise, and you don't have any of the account types listed in the Comment Log-in Menu, you can go to Google and setup a G-mail account. Once you do that you can choose Google Account from the comment menu. 

If you are digitally challenged and cannot accomplish this task, find a 10-year old.

Then, if you are already logged-in to your G-mail account when accessing the Comment Log-in Menu your G-mail address will appear. If not, you can type it in after clicking on the Google Account menu item.

If the/se same individual/s are able to rejoin The Alexandrian and continue with what is nothing more than schoolyard name calling, rather than civil debate, then their E-mail address/es will be blocked from the site.

Agenda for April Alexander City Council meeting

The agenda for the City of Alexander's council meeting to be held Monday, April 15 includes;

• The mayor's veto of the appointments of Shelly Maynard as recorder and Gordon Hall as alderman for Ward-4 Position-1;
• Declaring the treasurer position vacant;
• Appointment of an alderman;
• Appointment of a recorder;
• Introduction of the city attorney; and 
• Public comment.

The meeting will be held at 6 PM at city hall and is open to the public.

Mayor Hobbs vetoes appointments, but can she?

COMMENTARY

As promised, City of Alexander Mayor Michelle Hobbs vetoed two appointments passed by the council during its February 11 meeting. The notice of the two vetoes was provided in council member's information packets for the March meeting. The meeting was canceled due to the lack of a quorum.

In two separate actions the council approved Shelly Maynard as recorder and Gordon Hall to fill the vacancy for Ward-4 Position 1. The recorder position became vacant when Hobbs, who was recorder at the time, was anointed mayor, by the previous council, after Mayor Paul Mitchell lost a recall election. The Ward-4 seat became vacant when Henry Tackett resigned. After the November, 2012 election he learned he had brain cancer and died shortly after resigning. Both appointments passed in a four to three vote.

Alexander may be sued over court clerk firing

Filing fee needed

City of Alexander Mayor Michelle Hobbs may find herself and the City the target of a lawsuit after her firing of former court clerk Christi Miller. Miller was fired this past January. She was hired in October, 2012 by former Mayor Paul Mitchell.

Miller has retained the services of attorney Reggie Koch. Miller now needs to come up with the $350 court filing fee.

Koch was the attorney for several Hispanic men who sued the City (along with Mayor Shirley Johnson, Police Chief Allen Spears and Officer Tommy Leath) over alleged racial profiling by the police department. Koch and his clients won that case in 2010.
