City treasurer resigns over lack of job description and frustration

After not having a treasurer for nearly six years, recently elected city treasurer JoAn Churchill submitted her resignation after being in office 77 days. On Monday, March 18 she handed her letter of resignation and keys to Mayor Michelle Hobbs. She also E-mailed it to department heads and the news media. Churchill was elected treasurer in November, 2012 after serving nearly two years as bookkeeper.

In her resignation she stated, "Because of the situation in the City of Alexander, the extreme ‘brokenness’ of the governing body, because there is no ordinance describing my duties and finally no apparent common ground to pass such an instrument, I hereby tender my resignation effective 2:00 PM, 3/18/2013."

Alexander alderman receives "Letter of Caution" from Ethics Commission


Alexander alderman Farren Wadley has received a "Letter of Caution" from the Arkansas Ethics Commission (AEC) concerning his use of city property for personal gain without approval from the city council. He was also fined $150. The warning and fine are the result of an investigation of charges filed by city resident Juanita Wilson.
