Alexander special meeting June 2

The Alexander city council will hold a special meeting on Monday, June 2. The meeting will be held at 6 PM in city hall. The public is invited to attend.

At its May 19 meeting the council voted, five to three, to postpone the meeting until Monday, June 2. Alderman Andrea Bearden said there was no need to have the meeting since there's nothing to discuss.

Bearden noted the minutes from the two previous regular meetings, which were given to the council at the start of the May 19 meeting leaving aldermen no time to proofread them, as one of a series of reasons to postpone the meeting. Also, several items were missing from the agenda including two ordinances presented at the April meeting to allow aldermen one month to review them, the ordinance and resolution E-mailed to aldermen by then City Attorney Carla Miller after the April meeting, and the Mayor failed to advertise for construction bids to repair the driveway in front of the fire house on South Alexander Road and to have several streets repaired.

  2. I think it would be wise not to draw any assumptions based on what others say when it comes to your city government. The mayor is the mayor, and as a community we have to figure out a way to all work together so that we can improve. Negativity is the worst enemy of teamwork and cooperation. On another note, I am anxious to see an update from The Alexandrian on the June 2nd meeting. It seems as though our city government needs some help getting some things done.

    1. To "Many Numbers:" I think it is the height of naivety to think these responses are assumptions. This council has worked long and hard to bring sanity to city hall.

When the voters voted in the last election to unseat everyone connected with the previous administration, they voiced their opinion loud and clear.
The out-going council in a fit of revenge appointed the recorder from the last administration. They knew what they were doing. The citizens attending that meeting held signs because they were not allowed to talk having been threatened with arrest or removal or both: signs demanding a special election. The outgoing council turned their backs and refused to look at them THE VERY PEOPLE THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT, and gave us these months of the most inefficient leadership I have ever seen.
Sneaky behavior at the expense of the citizens who literally were stuck with what we have. I mean sneaky – the council hears events AFTER the fact! Then often by the ‘grapevine.’ They are ALWAYS having to clean up after this bunch.

Ms Ruby is likely good at what she does, (maybe; maybe not) she is under the thumb of the appointed mayor. The fact is we haven’t had a financial statement that made sense for a long time.
The recorder is no better than the last one we had. Who ever heard of going months on end without acceptable minutes; grammar inexcusable; facts skewed or missing entirely.

There is a marked difference between negativity and bald face facts. This isn’t personal money and personal information we are talking about, and there is nothing personal in the description of the events and complaints. These positions have job descriptions, outlined by the state and defined by the city, expecting ANYONE filling those positions to be capable of fulfilling them is not “negativity.”
The Council is responsible to the citizens of this community to see that things are done fairly and legally, it is a mandate of their elected status. Choosing up sides is not the focus here. Doing what is right is the focus.
I have no idea who “Many Numbers” could be, but they must be new in town, and be unaware of the facts. I can only recommend – know the facts and get involved. Also, know how the mayor / council community is set up.
You know, educationally handicapped elementary and pre-elementary aged children is not the norm in the adult circle at city hall – or shouldn’t be.
