City of Alexander needs three volunteers

(Open letter to Alexander residents)

Dear City of Alexander Residents;

We need you! I am one of two members of the City of Alexander Planning Commission. Alderwoman Juanita Wilson (Ward-2) and I were recently appointed by Mayor Paul Mitchell to fill two of the five vacant seats on the newly re-established planning commission. I won’t go into the details as to how we got to this stage, but needless to say we need three more selfless city residents to help guide Alexander’s growth to the next level.

We have some catching up to do. For the past two plus years the city has been using the Saline County Planning Board Subdivision Rules and Regulations. Because Alexander didn’t have its own set of regulations, at least none that could be found, it was adopted as a temporary measure to allow the Meadow’s Edge Subdivision project to move forward. A city version, converting it from county to city, has never been proposed. The City’s zoning rules from the 1980s are outdated. The zoning map has never been updated since the annexation of Woodland Hills in 2006. And, of course, there is no current Land Use Map to guide new development in the now larger city.

The problem is, aside from myself and Wilson, no one has stepped-up to fill these vacancies. With only two of us we can’t have a meeting because a quorum of five is three.

State law also requires planning commissions to have one meeting per quarter, but with the amount of work that needs to be done immediately there may have to be a meeting a month for a while. Once we get past the backlog of non-accomplishments meetings should be able to be held every quarter, unless something comes up that can’t wait.

Legally, a planning commission is allowed to have a maximum of one-third of its members holding another elected or appointed position in the city. Since one-third of five is one no other members of the city council, or department heads, can hold a position on the planning commission. That’s why we need three residents to come forward and donate their talents and wisdom to help the City of Alexander move forward.

If you want to join the planning commission and make a difference in the City of Alexander send a brief resume with contact information to;

Mayor Paul Mitchell
City of Alexander
P. O. Box 610
Alexander, Ar 72002

Or, E-mail to

If you know someone you feel would be helpful in planning the city’s future, speak to them and if they are willing have them submit their information to the address above.

Respectfully yours,
Michael Huck
City of Alexander Planning Commission Member
Former City of Alexander Alderman; Ward-3

  1. At least you "MR. HOCKEY PUCK" didn't blame the old Planning Commission Members. I can remember that in their reports Mayor Paul always said "I WILL HANDLE EACH ISSUE". I remember he said he would set up meetings with Metro-Plan to help. The revised Subdivision Rules and Regulations are on a CD somewhere in the City Hall. They were prepared by the Commission prior to her resignation. HE NEVER DID ANYTHING BUT BLAME THE EXISTING COMMISSION FOR NOT DOING ANYTHING!!!

I am sure that there are not any GOOD CITIZENS that want to be treated like the old Planning Commission Members. They had "NO COOPERATION from City Hall!!!!" They were finally kicked off by Mayor Paul and his HAND PICKED COUNCIL like he did the prior commission.

  2. One Citizen that I have spoken to has knowledge about the City Boundaries, Ordinances, Planning Laws, Development Laws, Development Bills of Assurance in effect, and ETC.
I am speaking about Mr. McKeon, ex-Commission member, who Mayor Paul and the other BLUE AND GOLD COUNCIL MEMBERS KICKED OFF for no cause except that he was disliked because he tried to get the City to do things right.
Maybe "HOCKEY PUCK HUCK" could swallow his YANKEE PRIDE and ask him to serve.

Since Joe Blogger knows so much he would put his name in the hat!!!

  3. J. Doe Blogger might, we'll see. Biggest problem for me is I don't know if I can attend the classes for certification, plus I don't live in town.
That said, I can say that your bitterness is reprehensible. I can’t believe you are bitter merely due to your intense hate for the mayor. It must have a deeper root that hasn't surfaced yet. You really need to look into that.
I know him and I know his family, You are just simply out in left field! You better hope he doesn't ever pin down your identity, because your libelous claims printed here are criminal.
The past is the past, get over it! This community has GREAT leadership, the progress is overt. The watch-care over activities at city hall by the Arkansas State Legislative Audit is more than appreciated and it is clear in it focus.
You constant name calling and belittling is characteristic of a evil, sick mind, I personally know 3 people who actually fit that description. Fortunately; only 3.

    1. I was trying to stay away from this subject so as not to add to the confusion, but since you brought it up. The law does allow a maximum of one-third of a planning commission's members (that's one for us) can live outside the city. The problem is you also have to live in the city's planning area. When Woodland Hills annexed in 2006 that basically took in all of Alexander's planning area outside the city. Alexander is now surrounded by either the city limits of Bryant, Shannon Hills and Little Rock or their planning areas outside the cities. The only area outside Alexander not annexed is the cemetery north of Highway 5 and I don't think those people will be attending any meetings. Being certified is not a requirement, as far as I know. It's just a nice little extra. Personally, it's more important to me to have someone who has lived in other places, as I have, who can bring a perspective not contaminated with the, "We've always done it that way syndrome."

    2. Don't think the area is anything like "YANKEE LAND" where Editor Huck is from. As for as "WE'VE ALWAYS DONE IT THAT WAY SYNDROME", I don't think this is the way the last Planning Commission worked. They tried to do everything by state statute. Mayor Paul and the other Blue & Gold Council wanted to do it their way. Like I heard Mayor Paul say "THIS IS MY CITY AND I WILL RUN IT LIKE I WANT". Seems like his "BLUE & GOLD COUNCIL" approves anything he says without question!!!

    3. WHERE IN THE WORLD DO YOU GET THIS DRIVEL! YOU MUST LIVE ON THE MOON FOR ALL THE FACTS YOU PRESENT. OR YOUR DRINKING WAAAAY TOO MUCH! "WE'VE ALWAYS DONE IT THIS WAY IS A TREND, NOT A QUOTE.
NO ONE MENTIONED THE PREVIOUS COMMISSION. THE FACT IS THEY JUST DIDN'T MEET. THERE WASN'T A LOT GOING ON, SO NO HARM DONE. FRANKLY THEY EARNED THEIR OWN REPUTATION, THEY DIDN'T NEED ANY HELP.
I CAN ATTEST THAT YOU OR NO ONE ELSE IN THIS WORLD HAS EVER HEARD PAUL MITCHELL SAY 'THIS IS HIS TOWN AND HE WILL RUN IT LIKE HE WANTS' YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION IS CONCERNED WITH OR MADE UP OF.
THEY ARE HONEST, CLEAR THINKING INDIVIDUALS WITH IDEAS OF THEIR OWN AND THE INTELLIGENCE TO EXPRESS IT. THAT IS OBVIOUSLY FOREIGN TO YOU - YOU NO DOUBT FEED ON GOSSIP, INNUENDOS, LIES AND SMOKE SCREEN. YOU BEAT ALL THE EXAMPLES OF IGNORANCE I HAVE EVER SEEN! YOU REMIND ME OF ONE WHO USED TO SIT ON COUNCIL AND FIGHT LIKE A MANIAC OVER 3 CENTS.
YOU REALLY HAVE NO BUSINESS ON THIS SITE, WHICH IS FOR THE SHARING OF INFORMATION CONCERNING THE COMMUNITY, IT'S GROWTH, SPECIAL EVENTS AND PROGRESS. THIS IS NOT A BOXING RING, GO GET YOUR OWN BLOG SITE AND SEE IF ANYONE WITH HALF A BRAIN VISITS IT.

    4. 1. Apparently Editor Huck thought it was a QUOTE. I just put it like he quoted it "___".
      2. Apparently you did not attend Council Meetings when Mayor Paul was elected the first time!!! That is one reason he got RECALLED!!! HE HAS SAID THE COMMENTS I REFERRED TO BEFORE!!! Glad you can ATTEST to it or believe you can!!!
      4. You need to read the COMPLETE heading at the top of each post. "TOPICS THAT MAY EFFECT THE LIVES OF IT'S RESIDENTS and YOU MAY LEAVE A COMMENT AS WELL". That is what I am doing!!!! Editor Huck and his Group can change the heading if they want then I will not comment.
      5. I DO KNOW THAT THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION IS NOT CONCERNED WITH ENFORCING CITY ORDINANCES OR THEY WOULD CLEAN UP THEIR OWN "TRAILER TRASH"!!!
      6. BIG WORD YOU USE IN FIRST LINE. I AM SURE THERE ARE CITIZENS IN ALEXANDER WHO KNOW OR THINK EVERYTHING I SAY "IS NOT NONSENSE".
(drivel). My face book page can attest to that!!!

  4. J Doe you sound just like my friend who hasss been here a long time, They tell me about what you just said , and alex.resdent, seem to have a very narcissistic personality! Maybe a good Psychiatrist could help them , My brother in aw is a world renown one, but he is in California! Wish he were here!!

    1. Wish he was closer because Chairman Huck needs his help if someone disagrees with him. His Yankee attitude comes out. When he was on the Council if he did not get his way "HE WOULD GATHER HIS TOYS UP AND WALK OUT". He even resigned because he thought his way was the only way to go. The volunteers need to know how he acts especially when he is off his meds!!!

    2. I was replying to you, not him! you sound like you have some mental issues, and I am not certain they can be fixed! Name calling and petty angst!!OMG

  8. If the General fund is short on funds HOW COME MAYOR PAUL AND THE "BLUE & GOLD COUNCIL" is spending so much TAX MONEY on a BIG sign at City Hall?
Don't think the City needs it!!!
Kind of reminds me of "THE WALL OF PAUL" during Mayor Paul's first short term.
GUESS THE PROPOSED SALES TAX INCREASE IS NEEDED FOR THIS SIGN. WASTED MONEY!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  9. To the residents of Alexander, the new sign is approved, paid for and will benefit every department and every citizen driving by.

    ReplyDelete
  10. "APPROVED & PAID FOR" was not the point.
The point I was making was "IT IS NOT NEEDED"
for a town our size. Also, the money could have been saved in the General Fund for expenses instead of raising Sales Taxes!!!
City Hall, Council and Mayor Paul does not think ahead.

"MY QUESTION IS: HOW WILL IT BENEFIT THE RESIDENTS???"

Wish someone would FOI the 3 bids that are required!!!!
