Alexander Fire Chief announces ISO rating

Alexander Fire Chief Ryan McCormick announced, through a September 23 Facebook posting, the department's latest ISO (International Organization for Standardization) rating. The rating is used for, among other things, setting home insurance rates.

In the posting McCormick said, "We are Excited (sic) to share that after working closely with ISO and it’s representatives, today we received our Class 2 ISO Rating."

"The fire department and it’s members have worked extremely hard over the last year to ensure we have accomplished the requirements to achieve this rating," McCormick continued. "The top Class for any fire department ISO rating, is a Class 1."

During the August council meeting McCormick provided an update on the annual ISO rating process.

"ISO came last month (July)," McCormick said. "We did all of our paperwork and went through all the processes that they were looking for. We're, we have a six month or so waiting time and they come back to tell us what our rating is again."

McCormick ended the posting stating, "We are extremely proud of this rating and will continue to strive to keep moving forward to ensure the best service and results for homeowners and business owners in our community."

  1. As a resident of many years in Alexander, i am thankful for the former fire chief, Mark Ridgeway, who was the fire chief who got us the ISO RATING SEVERAL YEARS AGO! He did the work and we have been Iso 2 for several years, so the new CHIEF has only MAINTAINED what someone else worked for! They need to take credit for maintain, not just getting, as it seems to say in his post. LET us be HONEST , please

    1. I knew that Chief Ridgeway long ago got our city the class 2 ISO rating so when I heard the new chief had said he had gotten it I was wondering what is going on. I am thankful the city has the class 2 ISO rating, but was the rating undone and redone when did that happen? Also the last I heard some on the fire hydrants in the city are not working so how can we be rated class 2 ISO if all the hydrants in the city are not in operating order...this concerns me.

    2. Let us be honest in that the "Old" Chief was dishonest and unethical and its a proven FACT. Lets not deny the countless dollars he "stole" from the City and its citizens. Getting AND maintaining the ISO rating is important no matter who does it.

    4. The former chief turned the fire dept. into a money pit that the new chief and mayor have slowly dug us out of. The former chief stole funds and the kept the approved raises that weee supposed to got to the employees for himself. If you don’t believe it FOIA the documents like others have.

    5. TO ANON. 2 AND 5. GATOR WAS AS HONEST AS YOU & I WISH YOU WERE. . IF YOU LISTEN TO THIS MAYOR AND RECOGNISE HER ABILITY TO DO A "FIX". ASK HER TO PROVE IT, AND I ASK YOU, IF YOU MAKE AN ACCUSATION, BE PREPARED TO PROVE IT.
      Otherwise it's just gossip!

    6. Gator had a volunteer firefighter who was a convicted arsonist. He was told of this and provided with hundreds of pages of documentation of this man's crimes. He even gave him the volunteer firefighter of the year. He totally ignored the crimes as did the old mayor. They claimed he had just gotten in trouble for burning up an old girlfriend's clothes which would have been bad enough for anyone with sense. But in reality he burnt down whole houses. That's like hiring Casey Anthony to work at a daycare.

It wasn't until the guy worked for the street department and failed a background check that he was removed. Gator and Mayor Mitchell just thought he was a good old boy and it was fine. Gator may have been a nice guy but he couldn't administrate his way out of a wet paper bag.

    7. Mark stole more than some peoples sense lol The facts are there, but some folks are too small minded to see what is in front of them bcuz they condone that behavior. There doesnt need to be any arrest warrants for it to be a proven fact that he stole from the City and its citizens!!!!!!

  2. Yes the Alexander Fire Department had an ISO 2 before Chief McCormack. Our city was at a high risk of losing the ISO 2 because of the lack of training hours and inspections. I believe Mark Ridgeway himself only had 16 hours logged and some of our firefighters only had 8 hours logged. The auditor had not been doing in house inspections. The hoses had not been inspected in two years.

I can't begin to tell the citizens just how hard all of our Alexander Firefighters and Chief McCormick have worked to be able to keep the ISO 2!

Something else impressive is the ability to manage their budget. Chief McCormick has worked hard along with the entire team to make improvements while being good Stewart's of the taxpayers dollars.
