Alexander Council meets tonight

The Alexander City Council will hold its monthly meeting tonight, (Monday, February 24) 6PM at city hall.

Tonight's agenda includes a decision on the long-awaited document, "Organization of City Council." This self-imposed manual, which controls how the city council functions, is supposed to be approved at the beginning of each calendar year.

However, in 2013 some of the newly elected aldermen didn't want to discuss the proposed document because it was written by the previous council. The council used the 2012 version during 2013.

Also on tonight's agenda is the appointment of a new treasurer. The city has received one application. The position has been vacant since JoAn Churchill resigned in early 2013.

  1. What a "COMPLETE FIASCO" last nights Council meeting was. I got so mad I just left. Juanita & Andrea was so set on making the so called City Attorney and Mayor Michelle do right before the meeting. During the meeting the two Council Members mentioned above were in agreement with everything the Attorney and Mayor said and done. I guess they are working on getting the Mayor to fall into their "AGENDA" Look out Mayor you are about to be "BLINDSIDED" by these 2 Council Women.
Did I hear that the City may lose the Fire Stations because of the BIG LOAN that former Mayor Johnson and Jerry Ball took out and "HOCKED" all the property?
The City Attorney made reference to another lawsuit that was filed for breach of contract concerning the property.
So much for what is written on this site about the Council turning around the City of Alexander!!!!.I still think the best thing that could happen is for the State to take over this City. Our tax money is being waisted and mis-spent.

  2. Bill, I am new to this site, but have read it for some time. I wonder what you do for the city, and wonder why you are so anxious to see the state come in and take over? And wonder why you always criticize but never have credible advice on what you think might help. I don't think your mayor can do the job either. It seems to me she has her own ideas based on controlling others and using them to her benefit.
I'm not saying the state is a bad idea, I am just saying you seem anxious to see it happen without offering steps to benefit the current situation. I would hope the state would be a last resort and would hope a solution could be found.
I must agree that the legal advice is about as disastrous as the legal expenses.
You said the city attorney mentioned a breach of contract law suit. I didn’t go to the meeting, seldom do, and further, don’t plan to – but I have no idea what this law suit would be about. If you do, why don’t you submit an article to the Alexandrian like Brad-Sutton did January 7th ?

  3. New 'face' on the blog-site! Some good thoughts, but the state is NOT a good idea folks, responsible people in city hall is the answer. We have yet to get an answer to the question posed earlier by Brad S "what did Paul Mitchell do that was wrong or illegal during his administration" I am not aware of anything. While I didn't like that he didn't do ENOUGH, he had a council with the brains of a snail sitting in the sun with salt on it's tail. Had they put all 8 brains in a bag, you couldn't have come up with a whole one.
This one like the one before Paul does too much, makes her own calls, and that to the expense of the citizens.
Welcome to the blog-site hope to debate with you again. We need people who will stand up for what is right in Alexander. Not all see right as right, naturally – but it is healthy to discuss , air and debate the issues. Mud slinging is ignorant, and common in politics, which makes anyone with half a brain to disregard everything heard in that arena.

  4. I am still looking for the itemized list of legal expenses the city has paid since 12/19/2012; including Municipal league; City Attorney, settlements, lawyers fees in state and out. Do I have to do an F.O.I. to get it? Any reason it cannot be PUBLISHED right here. Elections are coming up and we, the VOTERS need this information.
Please include how many of our trusted, experienced personnel have either jumped ship or been iced out, one way or another.
Let's expose this SHAM for what it is folks. Let's hear from some council people!!!!!
