Alexander Council's monthly meeting Monday, another slim agenda

The monthly meeting of the Alexander City Council will be held Monday, April 21 at City Hall. The meeting begins at 6 PM.

Nothing on the agenda provides a hint of major discussion items. However, there are expectations of an update on a topic from the March meeting.

At that meeting an attempt was made to give Mayor Michelle Hobbs approval to apply for a grant to repair streets in the St. Joseph's Glen subdivision. It failed when it was learned the City of Alexander is not responsible for the maintenance of those streets. That job falls to either the developer or the property owners association because the streets were never turned over to the city.

City Attorney Carla Miller was asked to research the legal issues concerning this matter. While not listed on the agenda an update from her is certainly expected.

  1. It must be noted that the turning over the streets to the community of Alexander isn't just an act of turning them over. The original documents declare that the property owners association is/was created for the purpose of maintaining St Joseph's Glen. Further it itemizes areas of responsibility, and lists streets in that list. It is not only not the responsibility of the community to take on that expense, it is further the irresponsibility of SJG to neglect it. For "city" officials to be searching for loop-holes to force the people of Alexander to take this responsibility when SO MUCH needs to be done in this community is proof positive they need to vacate their office!

While the street conditions seem to be a focus these days, our street department, illustrious mayor and those anxious to spend street department money need to look at the corner of Brookwood and Don Parker, where it looks like a small "sink hole" might be taking place in the middle of the street. That area has always had a problem, and has pretty heavy traffic, It is one of the main points of egress into and out of the community; we can't afford to see it closed, That section all the way to the train tracks need attention.

    1. Louella,
You are CORRECT on the above. "ALL OF THE COUNCIL & the MAYOR"
should be working on getting the grant monies to fix the Brookwood problems!!!!!! As Mr. McKeon said at the so called 'PUBLIC HEARING" last month about 90% of Alexander's POPULATION, SCHOOL BUSES and EMERGENCY VEHICLES use this street. $150,000 would go a long way to fix all the problems. Just let this street close down and see what and who is effectied. COME ON COUNCIL LET SJG KNOW WHERE ANY GRANT MONIES SHOULD BE APPLIED FOR AND SPENT !!!!!!! THIS STREET PROBLEM IS A "PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUE"!!!!!
As I said at the first "ALL" Council Members should work on this street
and not one that just serves about 10 families and is a dead end street.
Hope the City Attorney is working for SJG POA and sends them her bill.
I don't remember the Council asking her to work on taking the SJG streets into the City. Ms. McKeon ask her to ONLY check to see if it was legal to do
so because of an Ordinance that says it CAN'T be!!!!.

  2. I guess Councilman Scott showed his true colors when he used God's name in vain during his outbursts. What an embarrassment to the City. He is so childish when he don't get his way.
I hear Councilman Faye is going to FOI a copy of the taped meeting. Something about an Ethics complaint against "Baby Brad". Since the Mayor is trying to get him on her side the tape will "accidently" get erased. At least there are other tapes of the meetings just in case it does.
Seems like Mayor Michelle is not going to use the tax money correctly. So much for lifting the freeze and her Word about doing the right things.
Seems she is NO different than any of the other Mayors our City has had in the past.
"IT IS MY CITY AND I WILL DO WHAT I WANT WITH THE FINANCES".
I still say the State needs to step in and take over the City.
Matt Campbell (matt@bluehogreport.com) needs to do an investigation into the Mayor and the way she runs the City and it's finances. At least he can get results from his FOI request. Since he is an Attorney maybe the City can hire him as the City Attorney. I am sure Mayor Michelle would be "GLAD"!!! to work with him again.

    1. There is always some reason we have no minutes; whether it is erasure or?.?.?.. Fact is this recorder shows up for the meetings, and that is the sum total of her abilities, but at lease she shows up.

Don't be so quick to label all mayors as financial deviates, Paul was not in that group.

And the 3 ‘nay’ votes. What a pity, and what a waste of Aldermen seats. I’m not sure what Alderman Bailey’s problem is, she opens her packet at the Council Meeting; obviously unprepared and ignorant of the contents, but ready to voice an opinion and waste a vote.

Alderman Gregory? Good grief, I have no idea where he is coming from, I suppose if the police were to go to his street and make some people clean up their yards his obligation to the city would be complete in his mind.
He doesn’t represent his constituents; I doubt he has canvassed his ward and asked their opinion. If you have Alderman Gregory, tell us about it. Do you study the issues? Do you have any idea what is at stake in Alexander? Do you truly care about the welfare of Alexander, or just have a great need to kiss-up to the mayor? We, the public sincerely do not understand!
We realize everyone has a right to their opinion, but you are trying to leave before the meeting gets a good start. You want to give up the “fire department fight” while we are up to out ears in legal issues we can’t walk away from., that further were created by your mayor. I don’t know if you have a credit card or other contract, but if you do, what do you think would happen if you quit paying the monthly payment? Would you just walk away? If you did, would you get by with it?

Brad Scott, we know where his heart is. He needs answers for his home and his neighbors; he is looking for help for his property owners association, and doesn't know where to look, and isn’t ready to spend the money for an attorney to direct him in the correct direction. Apparently doesn't put much faith in his own POA documents. He is immature and seemingly desperate; It would be a good idea to table public service until some of his personal issues are addressed. Meantime these issues of his, he wants you, the citizen of Alexander, to tend to and pay for.
