Someone who's been attending Alexander City Council meetings has
developed a Top Ten list of factoids, mostly based on what occurred at the
March 17 city council meeting. Copies of the list are available at Elmo's
Grocery on West Azalea.
For those of you who don't get to Elmo's that often here's the "Did
You Know?" top ten list.

- (Alderman) Ceola Bailey did not see her packet until it was handed to her by (Recorder) Sharon Bankhead the night of the meeting? How can she vote on anything not knowing the city's information?
- (Alderman) Sam Gregory refused a new, and corrected, financial statement from the bookkeeper and then wanted to vote twice to spend city money, not knowing if the city even had it? Talk about reckless!!
- Sam Gregory asked the attorney if we could just "give up the fire truck fight." Wow, just throw away all the money spent for the initial purchase and the legal fees thus far.
- The city attorney is being paid to correct and proof the minutes to the meetings at a rate of $135 an hour plus the city pays Sharon Bankhead $5OO a month to do the same.
- The city attorney is charging $135 an hour to defend the city in the same cases we turned over at her request to the Municipal League? People this is YOUR money she is recklessly spending!!
- The city attorney, at the meeting, told the council that they should vote on something that night and worry later if it's legal or not, that they could fix it later. Wow this type of recklessness is why Alexander cannot stay out of the news.
- Council persons Gregory and Bailey were fed up with being there and ready for the meeting to adjourn before the "old business" was even completed, even though they are being paid by you $1OO a month to represent (you) and be there. Wow l think I could be paid $25 an hour to be there.
- Did you know your attorney is working on either raising your taxes or readjusting the 1% sales tax to give it to general fund? Don't we pay enough?
- The city attorney told residents of St Joseph's Glen that she would see that they got this grant. Doesn't it make you wonder who she works for, a select few or all of Alexander citizens?
- There is a meeting held once a month, usually the third Monday at 6pm and YOU can speak before things are voted on. YOU have a voice. Please come and be heard. Let these people know who they work for.
The next regular meeting of the Alexander City Council will be held
Monday, April 21 at 6 PM in City Hall.

Reads like Alderman Gregory just wants a "feel-good" experience, this is completely irresponsible! My goodness, how can we just drop the fire-truck fight. We still face a lot of legal expense, we can't JUST DROP IT! even if we wanted to!!!!! there is a contract to consider, that we are default on, plus owe a TON of money on. Legal or not it is a two party contract, they loaned the community funds; the leaders of that time accepted and used the funds. The theft, sale and current legal issues are just what 'floats on top' I hope because Chicago took the truck and sold it, a judge sometime, somewhere will call it even. But I would not take that to the bank til I hear the bang of the gavel. We'll see,
Isn't there something in the ORGANIZATION OF CITY COUNCIL" addressing the issues of accuracy and timeliness? Do we need a council written job description for the recorder who can’t seem to get one single duty right? Paying the attorney to monitor the recorder? Hey, come on folks, this is my money too. What a waste on both parts.
Speaking of Council written job descriptions, might add the attorney to that list. Item # 6 sounds like Obama-care, vote first – read later; WHERE DID SHE GET HER CREDENTIALS – WALMART???
No 7; we can take care of that at the next election. Maybe they want to take a cue from the original council people and stay home, protest the length of the marathon meetings!
AGAIN, workshop meetings one Saturday a month will take care of the debate part and shorten the meetings. But then, that would take commitment!! We don’t have very many committed councilmen, Those who are carry the load, and do it well. MAY THEY INCREASE!

Election are on the horizon, while everyone we know who plan to run, and some we haen't heard from yet - REMEMBER - EVERYONE HAS A PAST Don't dwell on it It's over look to the future. Does your favorite have the best interests of the city as their main focus? Every one who will be named has an agenda - believe me - look for it, decide on the true merits of each one.
ReplyDeleteHistory had its day, and were based on the conditions of that time. Everything is different today, the needs of the community are astronomical. We need HONEST participants, who have a heart for right in Alexander. We need a mayor we can believe when they speak, and whose agenda doesn't line their own pocket and those they can get to follow them.
