Agenda announced for Alexander Council “Special Meeting”

The agenda for tonight’s (Monday, June 29) “Special Meeting” of the Alexander city council has been posted. Listed on the agenda are, “Organization of City Council (Amended), Flood Map Ordinance (FEMA), Alexander 2015 Budget (Amended), Paychex.” The meeting will start at 6 PM in city hall. The public is invited to attend.

An amended version of the Organization of City Council rules and the amended 2015 budget were discussed at the regular monthly June meeting. A vote to table the budget was successful but an attempt to table the amended organization rules died in a four-to-four vote. There was no motion to pass the new organization document. A request for an updated flood map was received from the Federal Emergency Management Agency Friday afternoon. Whether or not to continue using Paychex has been an on-going issue.

As permitted under state law three members of the Alexander City Council scheduled the meeting. They are Dan Church, Stephanie Beck, and Jeff Watson.

Special meeting of Alexander Council called for unknown reason

Three members of the Alexander City Council have called a special meeting for Monday, June 29 at 6 PM in city hall. The public is invited to attend. The aldermen who scheduled the meeting are Dan Church, Stephanie Beck, and Jeff Watson.

The reason for the meeting was not included in the announcement as required in the council’s own organization rules. It can, however, be speculated that the discussion topic will be the amended 2015 budget, which was presented to council members at the regular June meeting. It was tabled allowing aldermen time to review the new budget.

Amending budget and council rules on City of Alexander agenda

Alexander aldermen will be presented an amended budget for the 2015 calendar year at their monthly meeting tonight. The meeting will be held Monday, June 15, 6 PM in the city hall courtroom. The public is invited to attend.

The budget was passed at the end of January shortly before the required February 1 deadline. It is expected this budget will take care of any loose ends caused by the hurried need to pass a budget.

Mayor Paul Mitchell was elected in the November, 2014 General Election along with council members. Only two of them were re-elected. The previous administration did not present a budget for review, or a vote of the council, before the end of 2014.

Also on the agenda is amending the "Organization of City Council," which is the rule book used by the council to run the city and public meetings. Clayton Mobile Homes Center, which is expected to move back into Alexander at its old location next to the Citgo, is also on the agenda.
