Voter registration ends October 16 to cast vote in sales tax referendum

(Headline edited 9/29/17 for those who take everything the wrong way.)

Anyone living in the City of Alexander, who is currently not a registered voter, has until Monday, October 16 to register if they want to vote on the city’s sales tax referendum. The referendum asks voters to approve a one-cent increase in the city sales tax, which can be used city-wide. The existing two-cent sales tax is limited to funding the police, fire and parks departments.

Residents living in the Saline County portion of Alexander can register at the Saline County Clerk’s office 215 North Main; Suite 9, Benton. Office hours are 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday. Anyone living in the Pulaski County portion of Alexander may use the Voter Registration Form provided at this link. You are instructed to print the form, fill it out in black ink and mail it before the October 16 deadline to:

ATTN: Voter Registration
P.O. Box 8111
Little Rock, Ar. 72203-8111.

Registered Alexander voters in Saline County may vote early at the: “Vote Here” Center, 221 North Main in Benton, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on the following dates.
  • Tue, Nov 7 ‐ Thur, Nov 9
  • Fri, Nov 10 (Closed for Veterans’ Day Holiday.)
  • Mon, Nov 13 (Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 14.)

The Pulaski County Election Commission has not posted any information about the upcoming referendum, including early voting. All registered voters, in both counties, do have the option of voting by absentee ballot.

Decisions by both the Pulaski County Election Commission and the Saline County Clerk will affect where people vote on November 14. The Pulaski County Election Commission has decided Alexander voters in Pulaski County will vote at the same location as Saline County voters. The Saline County Clerk has decided to not hold the election at the usual location, the Saline County Water and Sewer office. Instead, officials from both Saline and Pulaski counties agreed to hold the election at the Pathfinder Human Resources Building 12B, Highway 111 South. The building is at the south end of the closed Human Development Center property, near the end of Highway 111.

    2. Typical alex.resident telling Alex-n-der how to be her/himself. Always the self-proclaimed 'authority' (of nothing) Always telling people how to speak, act, be, think 'right' when he hasn't figured it out for himself yet.
Alex-n-der, good job. Accurate and unbiased as usual.

    3. Obviously I didn't use enough words. The headline did not say "Vote for." It was meant to convey to those who are not registered they have until October 16 if they want to vote in the upcoming referendum. Perhaps the new headline is more to your liking and intelligence level. As for the, "Loss of the long time Voting place" Mayor Mitchell is asking the same question. If he ever finds out he'll let me know. The working theory at this point is it may have something to do with being arrested on "harassment" charges September 1, 2016. Threatening an alderwoman and pretending to be the city code enforcement officer, which I'm sure is illegal if the city wanted to press the issue, doesn't win you any awards. I can't find a record of what happened after the arrest, but from what I've been told he was put on probation and if he was a good boy they'd give him a cookie. McKeon was representing the Mayor on the county waste management board, but according to Mitchell the county removed him from the board after his arrest. I would imagine it's no coincidence that he and his wife weren't serving as election judges for the November 2016 election. And, now the polling place has been moved from where McKeon works. Frankly, that whole set up sounds strange; election judges serving where they live and using the place where one of the judges works as a voting location.

    1. 1-Allegation ~ ”Mayor Mitchell and the other "BLUE and GOLD CANDIDATES including City Employees slandered Mr. McKeon across the polling place under a City Owned Tent put up and took down by City Employees.”
Response ~ Since I wasn’t there I can’t address the first half of the above statement except to cite the following definition from Law.com; “slander. n. oral defamation, in which someone tells one or more persons an untruth about another, which untruth will harm the reputation of the person defamed.” Aside from accusing Bob of murdering someone I doubt anything that was said, whether a statement of personal experience or an opinion, could harm his reputation beyond what he’s already done to himself. As for the second half of the statement, the tent is owned by the Mayor and he says some off-duty fire fighters helped him take it down. Hey, I wonder if your accusation is slander.

2-Allegation ~ “As for the arrest according to Sheriff's records and Bryant/Alexander Court records there was never a protection order and no conviction from any Court. NO record of probation on either side can be found.”
Response ~ I never said anything about a “Protection order” and I never said anything about a “Conviction.” What I said was, “I can't find a record of what happened after the arrest, but from what I've been told he was put on probation and if he was a good boy they'd give him a cookie.” Aside from my sarcastic ending, the rest is based on the one or two conversations I had with the harassee Melissa Ratliff. She was never called to testify at a trial and, as I remember, based on what she had been told it sounds as though a plea deal had been worked out that would keep him from being formerly charged and going to trial. Perhaps I should have made it sound more speculative, but I wouldn’t doubt that’s what happened.

3-Allegation ~ “There was no arrest for “Threatening anyone just Harassment. There was no arrest for PRETENDING TO BE THE CITY CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. (More SLANDER and LIABLE from the Police Chief and Mayor Paul.”
Response ~ You must enjoy being proved wrong. Let’s go back to what I said. In reference to why the polling place was moved I said, “The working theory at this point is it may have something to do with being arrested on "harassment" charges September 1, 2016. Threatening an alderwoman and pretending to be the city code enforcement officer, ..., doesn't win you any awards.” In the first sentence I clearly state it’s a “Working theory;” in other words, speculation. IF he’s no longer an election judge I don’t know why that would affect where we vote, unless the county clerk wants to distance his office as far from Bob McKeon as possible. I also said he was, “Arrested on ‘harassment’ charges.” As for the second sentence, it was merely commentary based on what was reported. The word “Threatening” nor “code enforcement officer” were not used in reference to his arrest but instead referring to reports of the incident. Since you want us to review the news reports check out this article from Channel 4. You’ll hate it. Saline Co Official Arrested

    2. 4-Allegation ~ “According to the minutes of the County Waste Management Board Mr. Paul should know the truth because he removed Mr McKeon in 2017 and appointed the Alexander Fire Chief to serve. More info that can be found. He was not REMOVED by the County. The County has no control of this Board.”
Response ~ “According to the minutes.” Oh, really! I’d like to see those minutes. The only information I get from the minutes is that Bob McKeon attended the August, 2016 meeting. He was not at the December, 2016 meeting. No other meetings are posted between August and December. Fire Chief Mark Ridgeway is listed as attending the next meeting, which was February, 2017. I’m sorry about not knowing these minutes were posted. In all fairness there’s no mention as to why Bob was replaced by the Chief. He was welcomed to the board by the chairman, but that’s it. I spoke to the Mayor Friday just to make sure I had the basic story correct. According to him he was contacted by our JP J.R. Walters, who is also a member of the board, and asked the Mayor who he was going to appoint to the board to replace Bob. Aside from offering Mark (Gator) as a replacement that, apparently, was the sum total of the conversation. I would have been more inquisitive but I guess the Mayor didn’t ask and J.R. didn’t offer. If Bob didn’t resign and the Mayor didn’t “Officially” remove Bob something happened.

5-Allegation ~ “Most all VOLUNTEERS that serve as Election Judges live in the area of the polling site they work at.”
Response ~ That’s no way to promote trust in the system.

      6-Allegation ~ “FROM WHAT I HEAR...”
      Response ~ More slanderous statements.

Your last paragraph is the sum total of your intent, no concern of any kind for the welfare of the community. This is the largest pile of horse manure yoou have posted yet. Not one single word of truth in all the words above under the post of alex. resident. as mentioned in closing paragraph, a.r. says it is gossip "I hear" absolutely no fact checking what-so-ever!
      pure garbage.
      TO THE PUBLIC:
When you see the white tent, or the various stand around town with the banner of the tax initiative, stop and ask any questions you like.
YOU WILL NOT HEAR ANY GOSSIP. SEE YA THERE

    7. You can't prove ...! And, isn't it a bit too late to be talking about Dollar General security cameras? Who's to say the police haven't already viewed the video before proceeding. Q: Are candidates allowed to solicit my vote outside my polling site?

A: Yes, "electioneering" is allowed outside the polls. However, it may not occur within 100 feet of the primary entrances of the buildings that contain polls. Which part of this are you having a problem with? Can't you do your own research?

    1. Who said anything about financials. Are you dreaming imaginary conversations?
1-"I understand." Do you know anything first-hand?
2-So far only the city has approved accepting the property. If you read the article AGAIN it says the state still has to approve the transaction; not to mention the paperwork has to go through; title transfers and such. It is still state property, so far. Besides, Saline and Pulaski counties accepted the site. Where did you get the idea government moves quickly?

    1. Laughing in the court room? There is not a single thing funny about harassment or this situation. It's abuse. Most people will take that abuse and keep their mouths shut, but some other people will put their foot down and refuse to be subject to it. Ms. Ratliff has had ENOUGH of the games. Ms. Ratliff does not play. Ms. Ratliff is not afraid of a court room.

    1. I missed that question. They missed the deadline to get the first six-month financials in the paper by September 1 so they were posted in the usual five locations; city hall, post office, Dollar General, Hess, and Elmo's. If you didn't see them track down who ever stole them and beat the crap out of them.

    1. Did I say Saline and Pulaski counties want the property? Were we not talking about the site as a place to have the referendum vote? So far, the state still owns the property not the city. Both counties had to approve the new site because the Pulaski County Election Commission, as I said before, is allowing their voters to vote in Saline County for the referendum. If I had my doubts before I am now absolutely sure you are female. No man can be that stoopid.

    3. I didn't delete it. It's above your, "Seems like Alexander Government moves quickly and behind CLOSED DOORS!!!" comment. Where in the sentence, "Besides, Saline and Pulaski counties accepted the site" do you see the word "Buy?" It is near the end of comments about the site being used for the referendum. I was obviously saying the two counties accepted the site for the referendum. If there's a legal issue take it up with them. But, as I said earlier, the property is still owned by the state. For the record, Pathfinder, as it's been stated in past articles, is leasing the land from the state. The city will take over that lease when the transfer of the property occurs. I'm assuming the buildings were built by Pathfinder. Before the 2018 election the city should get a legal opinion on holding elections on property owned by the city leased to an entity that owns the building used for voting. For the referendum I suggest the 100 foot distance be marked off with police tape.
